CARBONDALE, Ill.  – Prior to Southern Illinois hosting Illinois State for a home men's basketball game on March 2, Saluki fans will have the opportunity to participate in a first-of-its-kind event in the SIU Arena and find a forever "dawg". Prior to the 1 p.m. tipoff, SIU Athletics' partner Pure Pet will host "Adopt-A-Dawg" in the SIU Arena to benefit Wright-Way Rescue.
          Â
Pure Pet Natural Pet Market and Dog Wash, located at 2355 Sweets Drive in Carbondale, is unlike any pet store in that they take a holistic approach on each pet and believe that pure health starts with proper nutrition. Pure Pet teams up with local animal shelters to help raise money for pets in need and it is no different with this adoption event for Wright-Way, a non-profit animal shelter located in Murphysboro. Pure Pet is hosting the pre-game event at the arena to provide exposure for adoptable dogs from Wright-Way Rescue. For each dog adopted, Pure Pet will provide a free dog wash, I.D. tag, discounts on dog food and much much more.
Â
"We've been excited for the second annual 'Adopt-A-Dawg' event, and we're really looking forward to bringing it to the SIU Arena" said Pure Pet Owner Jay Webb. "We are excited to give adoptable dogs from Wright-Way Rescue the chance to find forever homes that day. We can't wait for this Saturday and look forward to meeting Saluki fans and potential new pet parents."
Â
Pure Pet works closely with Learfield's Saluki Sports Properties, which oversees the corporate partner platform on behalf of Southern Illinois University Athletics. In addition to teaming with Wright-Way Rescue for "Adopt-A-Dawg" Day, Pure Pet receives an in-venue videoboard feature during all home football games, as well as ads on the radio network and SIUSalukis.com during the season.
Â
"We encourage fans to come out to the SIU Arena before we tip off against Illinois State and visit with our friends from Pure Pet and Wright-Way Rescue. There are many dogs in Southern Illinois available for adoption, and we've enjoyed partnering with Pure Pet and bringing back this successful event that we created last football season. This event can make a big impact in our shelter's." said Saluki Sports Properties' General Manager Jon Ihrig.
