
Salukis to host first-place Lady Bears on Friday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois women's basketball team opens up a three-game homestead when it hosts Missouri State on Friday, Feb. 8. Tip-off against the first-place Lady Bears is set for 6 p.m. and the contest will be streamed on ESPN3.
All-Time vs. Missouri State
• The Salukis and the Lady Bears meet for the 83rd time in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season.
• Southern trails the all-time series, 29-53.
• Last time the two teams met at the SIU Arena, the Salukis held the Lady Bears to 1-of-11 shooting in overtime to seal a 71-69 win on Jan. 26, 2018.
• SIU's last five wins over the Lady Bears have come at home.

• Makenzie Silvey is averaging 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in three career games against the Lady Bears, including 10 points and a career-high seven rebounds at Missouri State on Jan. 13.
• Nicole Martin is averaging 10.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in five career meetings against Missouri State.
• Martin has scored in double figures in three-straight games against the Lady Bears, which included 19 points and seven rebounds at Missouri State on Jan. 13.
• Brittney Patrick scored a career-high 15 points on 4-of-5 shooting and added five assists in SIU's 71-69 overtime win over Missouri State a year ago.

• The Missouri State Lady Bears used a strong second-quarter to defeat the Southern Illinois Salukis, 66-51.
• The Salukis trailed by just five at the end of the first quarter but went cold from the floor in the second quarter.
• Southern made just 1-of-12 attempts in the period and were outscored 14-4 in the frame. Southern got to within nine, 40-31 with 3:32 to play in the third but that was as close as the Salukis could get.
• The Lady Bears scored 44 of their 66 (66.7%) points in the paint and went 16-of-25 from the free throw line.
• SIU held Missouri State without a three-pointer, as the Lady Bears were 0-of-3 from behind the arc. It marked the first time since Dec. 30, 2016 that Southern has held an opponent without a three-pointer.

• Southern led by just one, 23-22, at the half, and the two teams played evenly throughout the second half.
• SIU shot 51.1% and held the Bulldogs to 37.7% shooting from the floor.
• Amy Rakers scored 28 of SIU's 49 points on 12-of-19 shooting. She also added nine boards and two steals.
Disrupting Passing Lanes
• Southern has notched 10-plus steals in nine games this season, including a season-high 12 at Drake on Feb. 3.
• The Salukis recorded 10-plus steals in 10 games during the 2018 season, which were the most in a season during head coach Cindy Stein's six seasons at the helm of the Salukis.
• Earlier this season, SIU's five-game streak of 10-plus steals was its longest since the 1994-95 team posted six-straight games with 10 or more takeaways. The 1994-95 Salukis set a school record for most games, 20, with at least 10 steals.

• The Salukis are 8-1 inside SIU Arena this season and Southern's .889 winning percentage at home is the best in the Valley thus far this season.

Crashing the Glass
• The Salukis are averaging 13.6 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks third in the Valley behind Bradley (15.0/game) and Missouri State (14.4/game).
• Southern's average is also an offensive rebound more than last season's average of 12.6 o-boards per game.
• More importantly- SIU's opponents are grabbing fewer offensive rebounds per game this season. Southern's opponents average just 9.8 offensive rebounds per contest whereas last season opponents grabbed 12.4 offensive rebounds per game.
• Abby Brockmeyer (2.8) and Nicole Martin (2.6) rank second and third in the leauge, respectively, in offensive rebounds per game.
20-plus Offensive Boards
• Southern grabbed 22 offensive rebounds against Drake- which marked the third time this season that the Salukis have grabbed 20-plus offensive boards.
• SIU's three games with 20-plus offensive rebounds this season are as many as they had in the previous two seasons combined.
Logging Big Minutes
• Brittney Patrick and Makenzie Silvey both rank in the top-10 in the league in minutes played.
• Patrick has played at least 35 minutes in four-straight games and is tied for eighth in the league with 32.2 minutes per game.
• Silvey has played at least 30 minutes in 10 of SIU's last 11 games and is fifth in the MVC in minutes played (32.8/game).
Helpers Galore
• Makenzie Silvey tied her career-high with five assists at Drake on Sunday.
• It marked the sixth time that Silvey has dished out five assists in a game.
Active Streaks
• Makenzie Silvey recorded four steals at Drake- which extended her streak of games with at least one steal to 10.
• Abby Brockmeyer who ranks third in the MVC in blocks per game with 1.27 blocks per game, pushed her streak of games with a block to 11-straight after she turned away a shot at Drake on Feb. 3

• Makenzie Silvey currently ranks third in the league in three-pointers made (2.3/game).
• Her 46 three-pointers are the fifth-most in a single-season by a sophomore in program history. She is two shy of passing Meredith Jackson (1998) for fourth place.
• Silvey's 98 career three-pointers are tied for the 10th-most in school history. Silvey is tied with Cartaesha Macklin (2011-16) for 10th all-time.
