Men's Golf ready for South Florida Invitational

TAMPA, FLA. – The Southern Illinois Men's Golf team travels to Tampa, Florida for the South Florida Invitational. The Salukis in this week's tournament are Matthis Besard, Luke Gannon, Peyton Wilhoit, Hunter York, and Tom Cleaton with Vikar Jonasson and Sean Mullan playing as individuals.
Of the 15-team field, six of them played in the South Florida Invitational last year, including Southern Illinois. The teams include: USF (host), Illinois State, Chattanooga, Mercer, Southern Illinois, Louisiana Tech, FAU, Abilene Christian, Oakland, Elon, Delaware, Central Arkansas, Georgetown, Florida A&M and Cleveland State.
"I think that it's important that we have three guys who have seen this course before and finished well," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. "We finished well as a team last year in third place. I think it can only be beneficial for you to have extra knowledge and experience on a golf course."
The South Florida Invitational is held at Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club, former home of the Senior PGA Tour's GTE Suncoast Classic. Tampa Palms was designed to be one of the most prestigious and challenging golf courses in Florida by renowned golf course architect, Arthur Hills.
The South Florida Invitational begins Monday, March 11th at 8:30 a.m. The team will play 36 holes on Monday. The final 18 holes will be on Tuesday, March 12th at 8:30 a.m. Both days will begin with a shot gun start. Live stats will be available via GolfStat.com.
