AROUND THE HORN
- Southern Illinois hosts Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri for a pair of mid-week games at Itchy Jones Stadium. The Salukis host APSU on Tuesday and SEMO on Wednesday. Both games will start at 3 p.m.Â
- SIU swept a home-and-home mid-week series against Austin Peay last season. The SIU-APSU mid-week matchups have traditionally been high scoring.
- Since 2013 (13 games), the winning team has scored double-digit runs 11 times. The two exceptions are SIU's 3-0 win in 2014 and APSU's 4-0 win in 2017, both in Carbondale.
- SEMO beat SIU 11-9 in Cape Girardeau last week. The Redhawks came back from a five-run deficit to win that game and snap SIU's 6-game winning streak in the series.
- SIU is 1-1 in mid-week games this year. The Salukis beat Belmont and lost to Southeast Missouri.Â
- Mason Hiser will make his third start of the season. He picked up the win with five solid innings at Belmont two weeks ago.Â
- SIU is 7-2 in its last nine games after starting the year 1-3. The Salukis are 5-1 at Itchy Jones Stadium, having swept three games from Western Illinois and winning two of three from Northern Illinois.Â
- SIU ranks third in the NCAA in stolen bases, averaging more than three per game. Last year, SIU stole 19 bases in four games against SEMO and Austin Peay. In the opening matchup between SIU and SEMO last week, the Salukis stole nine bags in one game alone, led by a school-record-tying four stolen bases by Ian Walters.Â
