Noah Farmer took the mound for the sixth time this season and delivered the best performance of his sophomore campaign in a 4-1 win over Southeast Missouri at Itchy Jones Stadium.Â
As a freshman, Farmer appeared in 21 games and held an ERA of 2.77 in MVC play, but threw 25 walks in 37.2 innings. The lengthy righty has been steadily working to improve since the conclusion of his debut year.Â
"Over the offseason and into this season, I have been working on trusting myself and building confidence," Farmer said. "With my delivery, I have been working on using my legs more and getting the proper timing with my arm, that way I can get after it more once my foot is down."
Today, he pitched three innings out of the bullpen and commanded the strike zone versus the opposing SEMO lineup.Â
The Metropolis, Ill. native came into the ballgame in the fourth inning and was perfect in three innings of work for SIU, as he allowed no hits, runs or walks. He also struck out a season-best three batters.Â
"Today, I was able to throw first-pitch strikes and get ahead of hitters," Farmer said. "I felt comfortable on the mound and all of my pitches were working for me. I let the hitters get themselves out and got some strikeouts when I needed it. The defense didn't make any errors and that was big time as well."
Farmer believes that this outing can be a momentum changer, as he will continue to be relied on out of the pen for the remainder of the season.Â
"I think I can carry this momentum into the Illinois series," Farmer said. "All of the my teammates played well today, so I think they can do the same as well." Â
