
Salukis close season at CSCAA National Invite

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Four Southern Illinois swimmers competed at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship from Mar. 14-16 inside the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. The quartet placed 35th as a team in the final meet of the 2018-19 season. In total, over 70 teams were present at the NIC.
Swimmers Emma Brazeau, Audrey Snyder, Rita Naude and Laura Carver represented SIU at the three-day meet hosted by Cleveland State University.
Brazeau shined for the Salukis and concluded her four-year career at SIU with impressive finishes in three events over the weekend.
On day two, she qualified for the 100-yard butterfly finals and took 15th overall with a time of 54.99. Brazeau set the school record in the 100-fly (54.51) weeks ago at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
The senior qualified for the finals in the 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard IM on the final day of action. She went on to place sixth, an SIU weekend best, in the 200-breast (2:17.03) and 10th in the 100-IM (58.31). Brazeau was the lone Saluki to place in the top-10 in any events at the NIC.
Carver managed to reach the finals in the 200-yard IM and 200-breast. The junior out of Owensboro, Kentucky finished 20th overall in the 200-IM with a time of 2:04.05. In the 200-breast, she swam to a 17th-place finish, timed at 2:17.73.
In the 50-yard butterfly, Naude won a swim-off to take the final spot in the finals. She sprinted a time of 25.19 in the finals, which was good for 20th overall.
Another Saluki senior, Audrey Snyder, competed in three fly events at the NIC. Snyder came close to a finals appearance in the 200-fly, as she took 28th in the prelims with a time of 2:05.61.
The quartet of Brazeau, Carver, Naude and Snyder also teamed up to swim in three relay events at the NIC. The best finish for the four was in the 400-medley relay, where SIU placed 28th with a time of 3:50.76.
