
Salukis Win 25th Annual Saluki Invitational

Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished first at the 2019 Saluki Invitational. The Salukis shot rounds of 299 and 316 to finish with a 36-hole total of 615 (+39) at Hickory Ridge Golf Course. Indiana State (+44) was runner-up in the 14-team field, trailing by 5-strokes. The win marks the 10th win at the Saluki Invitational for Southern Illinois since 1995. Â
The Salukis had six golfers finish in the top-20. Sophomore Erica Kerr led the way for the Salukis carding a 71 in the first round and 83 in the final round to finish 10-over-par. Graduate Jackie Biggs, junior Lili Klekner-Alt, and sophomore Moyea Russell all tied for fourth, shooting 155 in the tournament (+11). Sophomore Rosemarie Bundy played as an individual and tied for eighth (+12). Sophomore Emilyee McGiles finished tied for 16th and carded 160.Â
Playing as individuals, senior Sun Jung (+20) tied for 30th overall, freshman Grace Renfer (+34) tied for 62nd, and Abby Brockmeyer (+59) finished 83rd in her first competition.
"I can't be more proud and excited for our team," SIU head coach Danielle Kaufman said. "It was a great tournament and we played very well. Today's conditions weren't perfect. Honestly, we have yet to peak. If we can get our confidence up we are going to be tough to beat. I want to thank the SIU athletic staff and all the volunteers for their help and support. We are truly blessed and thankful!"
The Salukis return to play April 5, 2019 when they travel to Murray, Kentucky for the Jan Weaver Invite.Â
