The Southern Illinois baseball team travels to Southeast Missouri on Wednesday for their second midweek game of the season. The matchup is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and live stats will be available at SIUSalukis.com/Baseball/Schedule. Mason Hiser is set to make his second start of the season on the mound for the Salukis.Â
The game was originally scheduled for a 3Â p.m. start, but was moved to 1 p.m. due to weather.Â

AROUND THE HORN
- Both teams have three losses on the year and earned home series sweeps last weekend.Â
- Southern leads the all-time series, 56-29-1, and has won six straight.Â
- SIU shutout SEMO twice last year. In a 5-0 road win, Brad Harrison pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out a career high 13 batters. In a 2-0 home win, Dylan Givens threw seven scoreless innings and allowed only two hits, while striking out six.Â
- Mason Hiser will make his second start of the season on the mound. Hiser earned the win at Belmont (5 IP, 4H, 2ER, 4K) in his first start last week.Â
- The Salukis started the season 1-3, but strung off five-straight wins. SIU is coming off a 4-0 week, in which they won their midweek opener against Belmont, 13-9, and swept a three-game series versus WIU at Itchy Jones Stadium.Â
- The Southern Illinois pitching staff held WIU to one run in all three games of the series sweep. SIU starting pitchers went 22.0 innings and allowed only two runs and 10 base hits. The starting staff also walked only four to go with 18 strikeouts.Â
- Dylan Givens tops the Missouri Valley Conference in innings pitched (20.1)and ranks fourth in earned run average (1.33). In his last two starts, Givens has an ERA of 0.60 in 15.0 innings.Â
- Trey McDaniel leads the team with four appearances out of the pen. The sophomore has yet to allow a hit or run through 3.2 innings. He also ranks second in the MVC with two saves.Â
- The SIU offense hit in spurts last week, as they scored four or more runs in an inning on five different occasions. Against WIU last Saturday, the offense exploded for 10 runs in the eighth inning on four hits, six walks, three errors and two steals.
- SIU newcomer Philip Archer leads the team with a .395 batting average. The average is good for fourth in the MVC. The junior has tallied multi-hit performances in five-straight games and has reached base in all nine games.Â
- Southern stole 17 bases last weekend and now leads the MVC and ranks 12th in the nation with 25. Will LaRue has a team-high seven steals and Nikola Vasic has six to the pace the squad. The Salukis ranked fourth in the nation last year in stolen bases with 131.Â
- LaRue was named MVC Player of the Week for his performances against Belmont and WIU last week. Over the course of four games, LaRue went 7-for-15 with seven RBI, six runs, two triples and one home run. He also went a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts and had three-straight two hit games.Â
