
Salukis tally seven wins on final day of Lenny Lyles Invitational

The Southern Illinois University track and field program wrapped up competition at the Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville on Saturday, April 27 with seven wins, including a sweep of the relay events and a near school-record in the 100-meter dash.
Bri'Anna Branch factored in three of SIU's seven wins Saturday. Branch won the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 11.51. The Chicago, Ill. native clocked the second-fastest time in school history to win the event for the second time this season. Tyjuana Eason ran a season-best 11.62 to finish third. The Salukis now have the top-two times in the MVC in the event.
Branch and Eason also helped SIU sweep the women's relay events Saturday.
The two combined with Genesis Ewell and Madison Meyer to run a season-best 44.89 to win the 4x100 relay. The time is the best in the MVC this season and the third-best in school history.
In the 4x400 relay, Savannah Long, Eason, Ewell and Branch ran 3:44.49 to best a field that included relay teams from Ball State, Milwaukee, Xavier, Loyola, Illinois State and Evansville.
McKenzie Krich posted her first collegiate win in the open division of the women's high jump. Krich cleared a personal-best 5'-5.25" (1.66m). Justine Paton cleared the same height, 5'-5.25" (1.66m) in the seeded division of the high jump to finish fourth.
Adam Kessler won the seeded division of the men's shot put. Kessler won for the second time this outdoor season after he threw 62'-5.25" (19.03m).
Kayleigh Conlon won the open division of the women's discus with a more than six foot personal-best. Conlon won for the first time in her collegiate career with a mark of 163'-7" (49.87m). In the seeded division of the men's discus, Ricky Hurley won for the second time this season after he threw 169'-3" (51.58m).
A'veun Moore-Jones, who had four throws over 50-feet in the shot put coming into the Lenny Lyles Invitational, had five throws Saturday over 50-feet, including her mark of 51'-3" (15.62m). Moore-Jones finished fourth.
The Saluki men's 4x100 relay team of James Croft, Johnny McGluen, Corey Sherrod and Kevin Turner turned in a season-best time of 43.07 to finish seventh.
McGluen also clocked a collegiate-best in the 200-meter dash at 21.87 to place ninth while Emma Sexton recorded a season-best toss of 120'-7" (36.75m) in the javelin to place eighth.
The Salukis are next in action at the 2019 MVC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Indiana State University, beginning Friday, May 10.
