Salukis start home stand with pair of mid-week matchups

The Southern Illinois baseball team hosts Illinois on Tuesday and Murray State on Wednesday to start a five-game home stand. Nine of SIU's final 12 regular season games are at home, where the Salukis are 12-7 this year. Both games start at 5 p.m. On Tuesday, the Salukis will wear special blue and green jerseys for Donate Life Month, raising awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation.

- Southern Illinois hosts Illinois and Murray State for a pair of mid-week games at Itchy Jones Stadium, starting a five-game home stand for SIU. On Tuesday, SIU will wear special blue and green jerseys for Donate Life Month, bringing awareness to organ, eye and tissue donation.
- SIU ranks second in the nation in stolen bases per game (2.77). The Salukis rank sixth in the nation in total stolen bases (108).
- The Salukis have had five rainouts this season. The program will play a maximum of 51 regular season games, the fewest since 2009 (49).
- SIU freshman Matthew Steidl is making his fourth start of the year. In his starts, he is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10.0 innings. He has allowed just seven hits and limited opponents to a .189 batting average.
- SIU is in the midst of a 10-game losing streak, the longest skid for the program since starting the 2004 season 0-12. Nine of the 10 games have been to opponents in the top-75 nationally in RPI. Six of the 10 are against top-35 RPI teams.
- Seven of the final 11 regular season games are against top-50 RPI teams, including Illinois (#20).
- Will LaRue is coming off a 4-for-4 game on Sunday. LaRue broke his hamate bone (wrist) in the series at Illinois and played through it. He hit .105 in the month after the injury, but he's hitting .333 in the last six games (7-for-21).
- SIU is 12-7 at home but have lost five of its last six home games.Ten of the final 13 regular season games for SIU are at home.
