COLUMBIA, MO. – This week the Southern Illinois Men's Golf team heads to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri to compete in the Tiger Invitational. The team competing this weekend will be Peyton Wilhoit, Matthis Besard, Luke Gannon, Hunter York, and Frankie Thomas.
"Last week was the most complete tournament we've played as a group. It's built momentum and confidence as well. We have a fairly experienced lineup here this week," said SIU head coach Justin Fetcho. "We have three seniors and a junior. I think we need to rely on that experience."
The 15-team field this weekend includes host Missouri, Kansas State, SIUE, TCU, Missouri State, South Dakota State, UMKC, Morehead State, Illinois State, Oral Roberts, Central Arkansas, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, Drake, and Hutchinson CC.
The Salukis last played on March 29-31 at the Florida Atlantic Spring Championship where they placed third for their best finish of the spring semester. Senior Peyton Wilhoit had his best finish of the year placing tied for fifth.
The Tiger Invitational will be held at the Club at Old Hawthorne Course. The course was designed by Art Schaupeter and features large, wide fairways and undulating greens.
"We're back here in the Midwest. I think if we can get some good golf in this week, that it can only help through the next few weeks when we come back to Missouri for our conference championship. We're looking to keep building that momentum," said Fetcho.
Round one will be Monday, April 8th with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. Round two will begin at 1:00 p.m. of the same day. The final round will take place on Tuesday, April 9th at 8:00 a.m. with the awards ceremony at 2:00 p.m. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.
