Lyon, McDaniel, Yeager named All-MVC

ST. LOUIS - Three Southern Illinois baseball players were named to the honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference team, the league announced Tuesday morning. Senior shortstop Alex Lyon, junior relief pitcher Justin Yeager, and sophomore closer Trey McDaniel earned the honor.

Lyon leads the team in batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, and home runs. He ranks in the top-15 in the MVC in slugging, doubles, and stolen bases.

McDaniel leads the MVC with 12 saves, which is also tied for third in SIU single-season history. He has struck out 38 batters in 25.2 innings, and his strikeout rate (31.7%) ranks third in the MVC. He has limited batters to a 2.18 average and allowed just five extra-base hits all year.

Yeager has been one of the top bullpen arms in the MVC this year with 14 scoreless appearances. He allowed one or zero earned runs in 20 of 22 appearances; in those 20 appearances, he posted a 1.14 ERA. He limited opponents to a .165 average and yielded just three extra-base hits in 35.2 innings. He limited opponents to a .207 slugging percentage, which led the MVC by more than 40 points and ranks seventh-best in the nation.

SIU opens the MVC Tournament at 5:30 on Tuesday, May 21, vs. fifth-seeded Bradley. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
