CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki Athletics will produce up to 70 live events for ESPN networks during the 2019-20 academic year, and broadcaster Connor Onion will be the official "TV Voice of the Salukis."
A 2017 graduate of Ball State, Onion has been a regular presence on Saluki radio and television games the last two years, handling a mix of play-by-play, color and sideline commentary. In his new capacity, he will be the Salukis' play-by-play voice for all television broadcasts.
"Connor was a 5-star recruit for SIU who has made an impressive impact since his arrival," said SIU Director of Broadcasting and longtime play-by-play man Mike Reis. "This is a natural next step for him and means Saluki fans can continue to count on top-notch broadcasting crews on both TV and radio."
The analysts for the 2019-20 season will include Connor James (football), Mike Trude (men's basketball) and Kelly Burke (women's basketball).
Every conference game for football, and men's and women's basketball will be televised in 2019-20, plus selected non-conference games. Basketball schedules will be announced in late August.
Saluki Athletics also confirmed it will broadcast 13 home volleyball matches this Fall, and will produce up to 30 softball and baseball telecasts in the Spring.
The Missouri Valley Conference enters the sixth year of a 10-year agreement with ESPN. Games aired on an ESPN network will also be available through the ESPN App, accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
