CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University men's golf coach Justin Fetcho has announced the addition of Eric Gilpin as the program's graduate assistant coach.
"I am honored that Eric believed enough in Southern Illinois University to join our family and become the first men's golf graduate assistant in program history," Justin Fetcho said. "He brings a strong wealth of experience, as he has played for a junior college powerhouse in Indian Hills CC and then at Winthrop and Lipscomb. He has been a part of a few different programs and will bring some fresh ideas for the upcoming season. Eric comes very highly recommended and we are looking forward to him hitting the ground running."
A native of Bloomington, Ill., Gilpin played collegiate golf at Indian Hills Community College (2015-17), Winthrop (2017-18) and Lipscomb University (2018-19). He totaled 42 collegiate tournament starts and was a national semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award (NJCAA Player of the Year) as a sophomore.
Gilpin earned GCAA All-America Scholar honors and tallied four top-15 finishes at Winthrop. He was named team captain and tied for third at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate in his lone season at Lipscomb.
Gilpin earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Lipscomb in 2019 and will be working towards a master's in sports studies at SIU.
