Birmingham, Ala. — The Southern Illinois men's golf program stands in 18th place through 36 holes at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. North Florida leads the 19-team field by a one-stroke margin heading into Tuesday's final round at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.

Southern shot 301 (+13) in round one, followed by 305 (+17) in round two for an overall score of 30-over par. SIU was in 15th after 18 holes, but slipped three spots by the end of round two. Just six strokes separates 12th through 18th place in the team standings.

The Salukis were led by Frankie Thomas, who is at 4-under par and tied for fourth place out of 100 competitors. Thomas was the co-leader after round one, as he shot 5-under par (67). The impressive round inserted himself into sixth place in program history in career rounds in the 60's at seven. It was his third round in the 60's of the season. Matthis Besard (74-74 = 148) is also on the top half of the leaderboard at a tie for 40th place.

Southern will be back in action tomorrow at 8 a.m. for the final round of the Graeme McDowell Invite. Live scoring can be found here.
