ST. LOUIS - For the second time this season, SIU freshman Marcus Domask has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday. Domask averaged 15 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals for SIU in two wins last week.Â
In SIU's win against Illinois State, the Redbirds tied the score twice in the game's final four minutes, and Domask responded with go-ahead field goals both times. His driving layup with 28 seconds left gave SIU a lead it wouldn't relinquish. He scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half of that game, including 8 of SIU's final 10 points. In SIU's win over UNI, Domask came a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. The win at Redbird Arena marked the first SIU victory in 13 tries.Â
Domask also earned the honor on Dec. 2, 2019. Domask is the fourth SIU player to earn multiple MVC Newcomer of the Week awards in one season, joining Kavion Pippen (2017-18), Desmar Jackson (2012-13), and Bryan Mullins (2005-06). Domask and Mullins are the only Salukis to earn the award twice as freshmen.Â
SIU has won three-straight games and will host Loyola on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Banterra Center. Special $8 tickets will be available on Tuesday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
