Indoor Season Continues at Music City Challenge

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University Saluki track and field program will hit the road for Nashville, Tenn. to take part in the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge on Feb. 14-15.
Meet Information
The Music City Challenge will take place in the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility on the campus of Vanderbilt University. General admission tickets are available for purchase at the facility for $5. Doors will open at 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Spectators can park in the 25th Avenue Garage (levels 9-11) prior to 6 p.m. and then in Lot No. 75 off of Natchez Trace after 6 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, spectators can use Lot No. 75 located across Natchez Trace from Vanderbilt's outdoor track venue.
Events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Last Time Out
The Salukis are returning to competition after taking part in the Indiana Relays on Jan. 31 through Feb. 1. Southern recorded eight top-five finishes over the course of the meet, including Kayla Schiera's first career victory in the 3,000 meter run. Jaylen Galloway cracked into the SIU top-10 list with his personal-best time of 8.34 in the 60 meter hurdles, while Alexis Roberson continued her hot streak by throwing for a life-time best of 70'-10.50" (21.60 meters) in the women's weight throw.

USTFCCCA Rankings
The USTFCCCA Regional Rankings were released Feb. 10, which saw the men and women's Saluki track and field programs both rank in the top-25 of the Midwest region. The Saluki men came in 21st, two spots ahead of last week's rankings, while the women stayed place at 17th.
In the Event Squad rankings, the men have top-25 placements in the shot put (17th), high jump (24th) and weight throw (24th), while the women boast the nation's fifth-best weight throwers and eighth-best group of shot put athletes in the country.
In the Missouri Valley Conference rankings, the men are currently ranked fourth, while the women are second behind Illinois State.
Alexis Roberson Named MVC Field Athlete of the Week
Following her efforts at the Indiana Relays, senior thrower Alexis Roberson was been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Feb. 4.
Her PR toss at the Indiana Relays moves the Jefferson City, Mo. native up to sixth on the SIU top-10 list for the event. She currently sits atop the Missouri Valley Conference in the event.
Following the conclusion of this weekend's Music City Challenge, the Salukis will shift their focus to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Feb. 28-29.
