OPENING TIP
- The SIU men's basketball team hosts Evansville at 7 p.m. on Thursday night in Banterra Center.Â
- SIU had its 10-game home court winning streak snapped on Saturday against Bradley. The home court winning streak was the longest for the program since a 15-game home winning streak spanned parts of three seasons (end of 2005-06 through beginning of 2007-08).Â
- Marcus Domask has 393 points this season; he will likely become the third player in SIU history to score 400+ points as a freshman, joining Charlie Vaughn and Kent Williams. Vaughn (1st) and Williams (2nd) went on to become the top two career scorers in school history.Â
- Domask needs 47 more points this season to pass Williams for second all-time among SIU freshmen. Kent Williams (2000-03) went on to score 2,012 points in his career and was inducted into the MVC Hall of Fame in 2019. (Domask won't catch Vaughn, who scored 620 points as a freshman in 1959.)
- SIU ranks 10th nationally (of 353) in scoring defense, allowing just 61.1 points per game. SIU also ranks top-60 nationally in fewest fouls per game (13th) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (57th).Â
- KenPom ranks SIU No. 2 in the MVC in adjusted defensive efficiency, behind Loyola.Â
- Via Sports Reference -- Marcus Domask ranks sixth nationally among freshmen in Win Shares with 4.3. Domask also ranks third in the MVC among all players in Win Shares, behind only Loyola's Cameron Krutwig and UNI's Trae Berhow.
Dawg Bites -- SIU is 8-0 when it has 15+ assists and 9-1 when it has more assists than its opponent ... SIU has overcome four double-digit deficits this season (3 during its 7-game winning streak) ... Barret Benson has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games (two double-doubles in that span) ... In the last 12 games, SIU has lost the points-in-the-paint battle 11 times; the lone exception was when SIU scored a season-high 42 points in the paint at Evansville (Feb. 5) ... Since Jan. 23, 2019, SIU is 16-3 at Banterra Center and 11-2 at home in MVC play.
