Early Goal Outlasts Purple Aces over Salukis

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- In a heavy battle on the field, the Southern Illinois Salukis dropped to the Purple Aces of Evansville on the road, 0-1. The Salukis found the attacking zone in Arad McCutchin Stadium, notching 12 shots, while keeper Maddy Alaluf defended heavily against the Aces with seven saves.
Evansville came to scoring in the ninth minute, a shot to the top crossbar from across the box after Alaluf did everything she could from the Purple Aces' Emily Ormson. The Salukis rallied, holding possession for most of the first half and brought in three corner kicks in the second half of play.
Standing out in the Maroon and White was junior forward Liz Brechtel, tallying two shots and two shots-on-goal for the evening. Followed up by junior midfielder Christy Murauskis (2SH, 1SOG) and junior forward Emma Spotak (2SH, 1SOG). Playing another full 90 minute match was defender Georgina Franco, who contributed to SIU with numerous blocks in the Saluki box and a shot-on-goal towards Evansville.
With a quick turnaround to the weekend, the Salukis play their last weekend at home in Lew Hartzog Complex against Loyola-Chicago, Sunday October 17 at 1pm.
