
Soccer Heads to Cedar Falls for Last Road Trip of the Season

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Salukis (0-13-1) travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to face the Panthers of Northern Iowa (5-8-2) in SIU's final road match of the 2021 season. The match inside Memorial Stadium will be played at 1pm and live-stats are available here.
A Look at Last Game: The Southern Illinois Salukis dropped to Loyola-Chicago, 0-5, in a Sunday afternoon match-up inside Lew Hartzog Complex in Carbondale. The 1pm start brought in five shots and a corner kick for SIU, while the Maroon and White held the MVC top-seed Ramblers scoreless for 43 minutes.
So far in 2021: Southern Illinois opened up scoring in the 2-3 loss to Kansas City in their home opener, bringing in four shots-on-goal to SIU and fell to highly notarized Vanderbilt, 0-5 and losing 0-4 to Lipscomb that weekend in another heavy-midfield match with keeper Ary Lougher earning her first collegiate start. Starting conference, the Dawgs held Missouri State scoreless in the second half, but dropped 0-3 on a Friday night in Carbondale. Hailey Blanchard scored the third goal of the Salukis' season, while SIU fell 1-3 to Murray State in their final non-conference game of 2021 on Sunday, September 19. Heading back into conference action, the Salukis scored for the second consecutive game at Illinois State, which resulted in a 1-2 fall. In the first of two mid-week Wednesday matches, the Salukis held Valpo scoreless for 74 minutes, in a 0-2 loss. Coming back home to Lew Hartzog Complex, the Salukis showed growth in a 0-1 battle with Drake, which resulted in four saves and SIU outshooting the Bulldogs, 11-7. SIU continued with two losses in a mid-week with Evansville (0-1) and Loyola (0-5).
Scouting Northern Iowa: Staying 4-4-3, UNI played a conference-only schedule in spring 2021, while matching Iowa State in February and concluding a scoreless double-overtime in Ames. The Panthers dropped in the first round of the MVC Tournament to Illinois State in penalty kicks, from a 1-1 final in regulation, and managed 9.5 shots per game last season.
In Carbondale in March 2021, the Panthers upended SIU, 0-5, where the Salukis tallied three shots and eight saves. The 5-8-2 Panthers have Valley wins against Illinois State (2-1) and shutout Missouri State (2-0), while posting 1.27 goals per game, 19 goals total, and 53 saves from the keeper.
From the Preseason: The Salukis compiled a 0-1-2 record in 2021 exhibition matches, allowing only three goals. Sophomore Ashlyn Henrie has shined in her second season with SIU so far, recording one goal and one assist in the three games. The Dawgs opened exhibition play on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 to Southeast Missouri, while falling to UIC 0-1 on Friday, and turning up another 1-1 draw to Belmont in exhibition. Four freshmen and seven of ten Saluki newcomers saw action in the preseason.

Sophomore forward McKinley Stiff and junior forward Liz Brechtel have recorded 12 shots in 14 and 13 games.
