
Men's Basketball hosts Henderson State for exhibition on Tuesday

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The SIU men's basketball team will play in front of home fans for the first time in 608 days when it hosts Henderson State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Banterra Center for an exhibition game. The Salukis are celebrating Community Night, and tickets start at just $5. SIU students get in free with ID all season long. Per state and local health guidelines, masks are required for entry to Banterra Center.Â

- SIU returns 97 percent of its scoring from last year's team. Seven players are returning who started 10 or more games last season.Â

- SIU was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll of head coaches, media members, and sports information directors.
- Marcus Domask (Second Team) and Lance Jones (Third Team) were named to the preseason All-MVC teams.Â
- Henderson State is a Division II program from Arkansas. The Reddies have had a .500 record or better in each of the last five seasons. Henderson State went a combined 42-19 over two seasons from 2018-19 to 2019-20. In 2019-20, the Reddies went 23-8 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, which was canceled due to COVID.
- Bryan Mullins heads into his third season as head coach of his alma mater in 2021-22. Mullins, who led SIU to the Sweet Sixteen in 2007 as a point guard, was named to ESPN's 40 under 40, honoring the top-40 coaches nationally under 40 years old. Mullins was a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award in 2020, given to the nation's top first-year head coach, and the runner-up for 2020 MVC Coach of the Year.
- Marcus Domask, the 2020 MVC Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year, returns after suffering a season-ending injury that forced him to miss the final 16 games of 2020-21. Domask was a two-time MVC Player of the Week last season prior to his injury.
- Prior to Domask's injury, SIU started the 2020-21 season 7-0, the program's best start to a season since 1947-48. The Salukis beat Butler 76-73 at Hinkle Fieldhouse, ending Butler's 59-game nonconference home court winning streak that stretched back to 2012. Domask scored 26 points in that win.
- Returning Award Winners: Lance Jones (2021 Third Team All-MVC), Kyler Filewich (2021 MVC All-Freshman Team, MVC Newcomer of the Week (1/26/21)), Marcus Domask (2020 Second Team All-MVC, 2020 MVC Newcomer of the Year, 2020 MVC Freshman of the Year, 2020 Freshman All-American (College Insider), three-time MVC Newcomer of the Week (2019-20), two-time MVC Player of the Week (2020-21)), Ben Harvey (MVC Newcomer of the Week (12/7/20))
- SIU shot 37.5% from the 3-point line in 2020-21, which ranked 25th in the nation (of 340). Lance Jones (42.6%) led the MVC in 3-point field goal percentage last season. Four other returning players also shot 37% or better from the 3-point line last season: Trent Brown (38.9%), Ben Harvey (38.4%), Dalton Banks (38.1%) and Steven Verplancken Jr. (37.3%).
