Salukis Battle, Fall Close to Drake

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- In the Salukis' (0-11-1) first game back after a three-game road trip, SIU tried to throttle the Bulldogs of Drake (6-4-4), but came close in a 0-1 loss inside Lew Hartzog Complex. With many open chances the Dawgs attacked first, outshooting the Bulldogs 7-6 in the first half. Junior keeper Maddy Alaluf got the start in goal, notching four saves for a season total, 46.
Drake scored the only point of the evening, a shot in the center of the box while Alaluf was on the ground by forward Emma Nagel, coming directly off of midfielder Libby Helverson in the 17th minute of the match.Â
The Saluki defense played off the Bulldogs' six corner kicks, while Drake played an aggressive match, with three players earning yellow cards in the second half of play.Â
While the back was moving through, defenders Georgina Franco and Katy Quinn both recorded two shots and a shot on-goal to throttle Drake's keeper Kelsie Stone. Senior forward Hailey Blanchard also saw two shots in the night.
The Salukis are back in action Wednesday evening to face the Purple Aces of Evansville (5-3-5) at 6pm.
