
Soccer Travels to Evansville on Wednesday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- With a quick turnaround from Saturday at home, the Southern Illinois University women's soccer program (0-11-1) heads to Evansville, Indiana to face the Purple Aces (5-3-5) on Wednesday, October 13 at 6pm. The match inside Arad McCutchan Stadium will be broadcasted on ESPN3, with live stats provided here.
A Look at Last Game:Â The Salukis were back home inside Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex and fell to Drake, 0-1, in a defensively-heavy match up. Junior keeper Maddy Alaluf notched four saves, while defenders Georgina Franco and Katy Quinn utilized extra room to the corners and both recorded two shots and one on-goal in the evening.
So far in 2021: Southern Illinois opened up scoring in the 2-3 loss to Kansas City in their home opener, bringing in four shots-on-goal to SIU and fell to highly notarized Vanderbilt, 0-5 and losing 0-4 to Lipscomb that weekend in another heavy-midfield match with keeper Ary Lougher earning her first collegiate start. On Thursday, September 9, SIU was upended by SIUE, 0-5. The last non-conference match at home, the Dawgs left answered, in a 0-2 loss to Bellarmine in midfield action. Starting conference, the Dawgs held Missouri State scoreless in the second half, but dropped 0-3 on a Friday night in Carbondale. Hailey Blanchard scored the third goal of the Salukis' season, while SIU fell 1-3 to Murray State in their final non-conference game of 2021 on Sunday, September 19. Heading back into conference action, the Salukis scored for the second consecutive game at Illinois State, which resulted in a 1-2 fall. In the first of two mid-week Wednesday matches, the Salukis held Valpo scoreless for 74 minutes, in a 0-2 loss. Coming back home to Lew Hartzog Complex, the Salukis showed growth in a 0-1 battle with Drake, which resulted in four saves and SIU outshooting the Bulldogs, 11-7.
Scouting Evansville: The Purple Aces posted a 2-3-3 record last season in sole MVC play, with a canceled game against Missouri State. Evansville found the back of net twice, while being overcame by Valparaiso in the first round of the MVC Tournament from penalty kicks.Â
In Carbondale last spring, the Salukis and Purple Aces ended 110 minutes in a scoreless double-overtime draw which showcased the Salukis' strong mid-season improvement. SIU outshot Evansville, 16-11, and found the offensive attack with five corner kicks. In the fall of 2021, Evansville is currently 5-3-5 and found their first Valley win this season against Northern Iowa, a 2-0 match.
From the Preseason: The Salukis compiled a 0-1-2 record in 2021 exhibition matches, allowing only three goals. Sophomore Ashlyn Henrie has shined in her second season with SIU so far, recording one goal and one assist in the three games. The Dawgs opened exhibition play on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 to Southeast Missouri, while falling to UIC 0-1 on Friday, and turning up another 1-1 draw to Belmont in exhibition. Four freshmen and seven of ten Saluki newcomers saw action in the preseason.
Up in the Ranks: Junior keeper Maddy Alaluf is steady at sixth in the Missouri Valley in saves per game (4.18), while sophomore forward Sam Dodd tops the Salukis with 14 shots and seven shots-on-goal, teammate junior forward Kaitlin DuCharme follows with 13, while freshman midfielder Ashley Scesniak and sophomore forward McKinley Stiff have recorded 12 shots. Scesniak, senior forward/midfielder Hailey Blanchard, junior forward Emma Spotak, and junior midfielder Quinn Parks all hold goals in the book for the Salukis.
