Salukis to Open MVC Play on New Year's Eve vs. Valparaiso

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The conference season will start on the final day of 2021 for the Southern Illinois University women's basketball team. The Salukis will play host to the Valparaiso Beacons at 2 p.m. on Friday in Banterra Center.
Southern finished non-conference play with a 5-5 record, highlighted by a victory over Big 10 foe Illinois. This was the first B1G victory for the Salukis since 2016 and the first victory over the Illini since 1993.
The Salukis and Beacons will meet for the ninth time on New Year's Eve. Southern leads the all-time series 5-3. This will be the fourth-straight meeting in Carbondale, as both games in last year's COVID-altered schedule took place in Banterra Center.
