OPENING TIP
- Saturday's game is the annual Black Out Cancer game. Winning bidders place the name of their choosing on the jersey and will receive the game-worn jerseys. All proceeds from the auction go to Southern Illinois Healthcare's Coach Kill Cancer Fund, which benefits cancer patients in southern Illinois. For more information, visit SalukisBlackOutCancer.com.
- Since 2013-14, the home team in the SIU-Illinois State series is 12-2. Each teams has won once on the other's home court in that stretch: Illinois State won in Carbondale during their 17-1 MVC title season in 2017 (SIU's now-GA Tony Wills was senior on that team), and SIU won in Normal last season, which snapped a 12-game road losing streak for SIU in the series (SIU had not won in Normal since the 2006-07 Sweet Sixteen season).
- SIU leads the MVC and ranks 18th nationally (of 340) in 3-point field goal percentage (38.7%).
- SIU hit 15 3-pointers against UNI (1/31/21), the most for the program since 1998.
- The Salukis went 22-for-53 (41.5%) from downtown against a Bradley team that came into the weekend allowing opponents to shoot just 38.7% from the field, which led the MVC and ranked 12th nationally.
- Starting with last weekend's Bradley series, SIU is playing five games in nine days, eight games in 17 days, and the final 10 games of the regular season in 22 days. (The ISU games are the fourth and fifth games in that stretch.)
- SIU at Banterra Center:Â
- 18-5 under head coach Bryan Mullins
- 23-6 in its last 29 home games, dating back to Jan. 23, 2019
- Since returning from a 21-day COVID break in January (7 games), SIU has been without leading scorer Marcus Domask, who is week-to-week with a left foot injury.
- Among MVC freshmen, Dalton Banks ranks fifth in scoring, second in assists (2.0) and third in steals (1.1). Kyler Filewich ranks in the top-10 in all five major statistical categories: scoring, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
- Lance Jones leads the MVC in steals per game (1.7/g). The last SIU player to lead the MVC in steals per game was now-head coach Bryan Mullins in 2008.
- SIU will wear RH patches on its jerseys for the remainder of the season, in memory of SIU and MVC Hall-of-Fame coach Rich Herrin, who died on Christmas night at the age of 87.
