Men's Golf in Eighth After Day One of Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Southern Illinois University men's golf program sits in eighth through the first two rounds of the Louisiana Classics at nine-over par at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La. No. 5-ranked Illinois leads the 14-team field after finishing the first day 21-under par.
The Salukis closed out the first day with a total score of 588 (294-291) through the first two rounds.
In the individual standings, senior Birgir Magnusson led SIU after recording rounds of 74 and 72 (146) to finish the day two-over par. The Iceland will start the final round of the tournament tied for 28th. Justin Wingerter was the next closest Saluki in the standings, as the freshman sits one stroke behind Magnusson at three-over par, tying the Olathe, Kan., native for 32nd in the field.
Matthis Besard closed out day one tied for 55th with Tom Cleaton, as the pair finished the first two rounds at six-over par with rounds of 72-78 and 75-75, respectively. Josh Mackin rounded out the Salukis by tying for 64th at eight-over par (152).
Southern Illinois will tee off for the final round of the Louisiana Classics in a shotgun start at 7 a.m. Live coverage of round three will be carried by ESPN+ beginning at 9:30 a.m.
