#27 SIU hosts Marshall for three-game series

CARBONDALE, Ill. - SIU, ranked #27 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball, hosts Marshall for a three-game series this weekend. All three game times have been adjusted from the original schedule. Friday's game will now start at 3 p.m.; Saturday's game will start at 3:30 p.m.; and Sunday's game will begin at 12 p.m.Â

- Salukis in the national rankings...
- SIU is ranked in the most recent Collegiate Baseball Top-30 poll for a second-straight week. SIU broke into the rankings last week at #25 and fell to #27 this week. Prior to this year, SIU's last known recorded national ranking was in 1990, when Itchy Jones 49-14 Salukis finished the season ranked #14 by Baseball America and #16 by Collegiate Baseball.
- Additionally, SIU is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll and NCBWA national polls. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, SIU is de facto #32 in the nation (teams receiving votes are listed in order of most votes received) and the #3 mid-major team in the nation (East Carolina (#9) and UC Santa Barbara (#22) are nationally ranked, and SIU is the top mid-major receiving votes).Â
- 11point7, which is a college baseball podcast, has a weekly mid-major power rankings, and SIU is ranked #1 this week.Â
- SIU started the season 14-0 before losing to Evansville on Sunday. SIU's 14-0 start is the best in program history (the 1967 team started 11-0).
- The Salukis were the only team in the nation that reached a 14-0 record this season. Five teams remain undefeated but have all played five games or fewer.
- SIU won 19-straight games: the final five games of the 2020 season and the first 14 games of this season. The 19-game winning streak was the third-longest winning streak in program history (1973 and 1974 teams each had 24-game winning streaks).
- J.T. Weber was named National Player of the Week and MVC Player of the Week on Monday. Weber reached in 14 of 17 plate appearances in SIU's 3-1 series win over Evansville. During one stretch, Weber reached safetly in 11 consecutive plate appearances, including two home runs.
- Weber marks the third-straight week that the MVC Player of the Week has been a Saluki. Philip Archer earned the honor after SIU swept Mercer, and Tristan Peters earned it last week after SIU swept UT Martin.
- SIU ranks second in the nation in home runs with 32 (LSU has hit 35). Other national ranks (272 teams playing):
