Saluki Men's Golf Tied for Ninth After First Day of Craft Farms Intercollegiate

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Southern Illinois University men's golf program is in a tie for ninth through the first round of the Craft Farms Intercollegiate at 11-over par. Louisiana leads the 13-team field at four-under par.
SIU closed out the first day of the tournament with a total score of 299.
In the individual standings, junior Matthis Besard led SIU after recording an opening-round score of 70, finishing the day two-under par. The Belgium native is currently tied for fifth among the participating golfers. Justin Wingerter was the next closest Saluki in the standings, as the freshman finished five strokes behind Besard (75) at three-over par, tying him for 32nd against the field.
Tom Cleaton closed out the first round at four-over par in a tie for 43rd. Birgir Magnusson finished two strokes behind Cleaton at a score of 78, putting the Iceland native at six-over par and tied for 56th. Andrew Thornton rounded out the Salukis by finishing with a score of 88 (+16), placing the sophomore 75th individually.
The Salukis will tee off tomorrow morning at 7:50 a.m. Live results of the tournament are provided via GolfStat.
