Men’s Golf Finish 17th at Gene Miranda Falcon Invite

The Southern Illinois men's golf team opened the 2021-22 season at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, hosted by Air Force. The Salukis carded 306, 291, and 298 at the Eisenhower Golf Course with a score of 895 (+31) to finish in 17th place.
Senior Matthis Besard led the Salukis, improving each round to finish tied for 29th at 3-over par (219). Junior Andrew Thornton played as an individual on the Silver Course and finished 11-over, tied for 29th overall individually. Freshman Carsen Silliman also competed as an individual and fired a 73 on the final day to close out the invite tied at 15-over (231) for 32nd place.
Making his collegiate debut, freshman Braden Hoisington shot a 67 in the second round, a tournament best for the Salukis, and finished at 8-over (224), tied for 57th. Senior Tom Cleaton was consistent throughout the weekend, shooting 227 (+9) and tied for 66th place. Sophomore Justin Wingerter carded his best round on the final day, finishing 78th at 11-over (227). Senior Markus Wilhelmsen rounded out SIU's score with final 31-over (247).

The Salukis head to Manhattan, Kansas for the Wildcats Invitational, hosted by Kansas State, on September 13, 2021 at the Colbert Hills Golf Course.
