NORMAL, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Saluki soccer team (0-9-1) battled with the Redbirds of Illinois State (3-8), that drew to a 1-2 final for the home Redbirds. Junior keeper Maddy Alaluf played a full 90 minute match, held ISU scoreless in the first half, and accumulated eight saves throughout. Junior midfielder Quinn Parks notched the fourth goal of the Salukis' season, bringing points for SIU late in the 79th minute.
After a scoreless first half that drew the Salukis five shots, the Redbirds brought points to the board in the 47th minute with a shot to the back of the Saluki net by midfielder Indianna Asimus off the foot of forward Riley O'Brien from a pass by forward Sarah Lafayette. The 'Birds came back with another goal in the 71st minute, a shot from midfielder Katherine Felton -- her second of the season.
SIU came into the attack from Parks, taking the shot off her head with some bounce back with the crossbar and Illinois State defenders, ultimately winning the challenge to earn her first goal of the season. Junior midfielder Christy Murauskis got the assist and her first point of 2021.
Fighting on the offense, the Dawgs posted 13 shots, with three on-goal led by sophomore forward McKensey Bunch (3SH, 1SOG), sophomore forward Sam Dodd (3SH, 1SOG), and senior forward/midfielder Hailey Blanchard (2SH).
