
Southern Illinois Back in Nashville on Sunday

CARBONDALE, Illinois -- Southern Illinois is back in action as they travel back to Nashville, Sunday, September 5 to take on ASUN Lipscomb at 5:30pm. The Bison will have streaming available on YouTube, while statistics while be posted here.
A Look at Last Game:Â The Salukis dropped to SEC opponent Vanderbilt, 0-5, Thursday evening in Nashville. SIU battled to the previously ranked Commordores, where sophomore midfielder McKinley Stiff posted two shots and a shot-on-goal, and keepers Maddy Alaluf and Ary Lougher split time in the net and recorded five saves in 90 minutes.
So far in 2021: The 0-3-1 Dawgs dropped to UT-Martin, 0-2, during their 2021 season opener on Thursday. The midfield-heavy match showcased junior forward Kaitlin DuCharme notching two shots and one on-goal for the Salukis in the 90-minute contest. On August 22, SIU traveled to ASUN North Alabama, which resulted in a scoreless double-overtime draw featuring 16 Salukis shots towards the goal and three saves on defense. Southern Illinois opened up scoring in the 2-3 loss to Kansas City in their home opener, bringing in four shots-on-goal to SIU and fell starting the weekend to highly notarized Vanderbilt, 0-5.
Scouting Lipscomb:Â The Bison finished 7-3-2Â (6-0-2 ASUN) in the 2020-21 season, going with a perfect record in the conference and dropping to Liberty ASUN Champtionship, 0-1. Most notably, the Bison took SEC Alabama into a scoreless double-overtime draw in the spring, while going for the offensive powerhouse in a 7-0 shutout to conference-opponent North Alabama on March 31.
In 2019, Lipscomb overcame SIU 6-0 in Carbondale as the Salukis now travel away. The Bison currently post a 3-1 record in 2021, taking big wins against Mississippi State (2-1) to open the season, and at Miami (2-0). Lipscomb first loss came on Thursday to #23 Pepperdine, a 0-1 match in Nashville.
From the Preseason: The Salukis compiled a 0-1-2 record in 2021 exhibition matches, allowing only three goals. Sophomore Ashlyn Henrie has shined in her second season with SIU so far, recording one goal and one assist in the three games. The Dawgs opened exhibition play on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 to Southeast Missouri, while falling to UIC 0-1 on Friday, and turning up another 1-1 draw to Belmont in exhibition. Four freshmen and seven of ten Saluki newcomers saw action in the preseason.
