
Salukis host Belmont, Murray State for homecoming weekend

The Southern Illinois volleyball team returns to Davies Gym this weekend as the Salukis are set to host Belmont and Murray State. The Salukis look to extend their winning streak after going 2-0 last weekend, sweeping Evansville and taking down Indiana State in four-sets. Friday's match with the Bruins will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. start on Saturday against the Racers.Â

- Belmont will enter Friday's matchup with a 7-13 (3-4 MVC) record after dropping its last two matches.Â
- 2022 marks the first season in the Valley for the Bruins, joining the conference from the OVC where they've had much success.
- Laura Shoopman paces the Bruins offense averaging 3.56 kills per set and totaling 285 on the season.

- SIU and Belmont have faced off just once prior to the 2022 season, where the Bruins won 3-0Â in September of 2006.
- The two teams faced off once this season already in a match that the Salukis won in five (25-19, 26-24, 26-28, 19-25, 15-8).
- The all-time record between the two squads is 1-1.
- The Racers currently sit at 6-11 (2-5 MVC) on the season and will face off with Missouri State Friday night prior to their visit to Carbondale.

Season-Highs All Around In Valley Play
- Outside hitter Nataly Garcia recorded 26 kills with a .563 hitting percentage in the win over Indiana State, both season-highs for Garcia.
- Tatum Tornatta also recorded a season-high 19 kills in the win at Indiana State.Â
- Hartfield also recorded a new season-high .571 hitting percentage in the win at Murray. She currently leads the Valley with a .383 hitting percentage on the year.
- Valley leader in assists per set (11.09), Anna Jaworski, recorded a season-high 65 assists in the win over Belmont.
- Defensive specialists, Claudia Bobb recorded 27 digs in the five-set win over Murray State. The most she's had in her freshman season.
- Annabelle Sulish recorded a season-high five aces while fellow freshman middle, Brinley Burdette recorded a season-high nine digs at Murray State
- Freshman Ceci Buhlman recorded a career-high 17 kills in the Salukis four-set loss to Drake.
