Southern Illinois face Murray State at home on Thursday

The Salukis played Northern Iowa to a 1-1 draw in their last match on Sunday. After conceding in the 12th minute, Southern Illinois found the equalizer in the second half as Emma Spotak scored the game-tying goal. SIU out-shot the Panthers, 14-9, in the match.
In their last three matches, the Salukis are unbeaten, going 2-0-1 during that span. Since Sept. 1, Southern has put together a record of 6-2-2 in 10 matches played.
In the Valley standings, Southern Illinois is currently in third place. The only two schools ahead of the Salukis are Missouri State and Valparaiso.

Spotak's three goals lead the team, and are tied for the second most in the Valley.
Liz Brechtel, Christy Murauskis, and Kaitlin DuCharme have all scored two goals each so far this season. Six different players have scored once, with those six being McKinley Stiff, McKensey Bunch, Sam Dodd, Alyssa Fallon, Quinn Parks, and Paris Walsh.
Brechtel's two assists are the most on the team. Spotak, Murauskis, Stiff, and Ashlyn Henrie all have one each.
Goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf has played and started in 11 matches this season, tallying a 1.00 goals against average and .823 save percentage, which ranks second in the Valley. Both marks are career-high's for the senior goalkeeper.
Dodd is the team's leader in shots with 28 total and 11 shots-on-goal.

Head Coach Craig Roberts

Roberts is in his first season as Southern Illinois' head coach. For the last two seasons, Roberts served as the head coach at Grambling State, where he led the Tigers to a combined record of 17-9-5 and back-to-back trips to the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match.
Prior to Grambling State, Roberts coached nine seasons at Ball State, totaling 99 wins to become the winningest coach in program history. Under his guidance, the Cardinals won four-consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division titles from 2015-2018 and claimed back-to-back MAC regular-season championships in 2015 and 2016.
Roberts' first head coaching job was with UT Martin, which went from 2006-2009. In 2009, he and the Skyhawks won their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.
Outside of collegiate soccer, Roberts also has experience on an international level. From 2014-16, he was an assistant coach on the Haitian Women's National Team. During this time, he also served as the head coach of the U-17 Haitian National Team. After Haiti, Roberts was an assistant coach with the Puerto Rican Women's National Team from 2016-19.

Looking at Murray State

The Racers head into Carbondale with a record of 4-7-3 overall and are 3-1-2 in conference play.
Murray State is coming off of a 7-3 victory in its last match on Sunday against Illinois State. The seven goals are the most scored by the Racers in a match this season, and are the most since 2009.
Sydney Etter scored a hat-trick while Saraya Young tallied one goal and three assists in the win.
Murray State is fifth in the conference standings, and is one of three schools to have a 3-1-2 MVC record (Southern Illinois and UIC).
The Racers lead the Valley in goals (21), goals per game (1.50), and assists (22).
Etter and Lauren Payne are tied for the most goals scored in the league with four each.
Young leads the Valley with seven assists on the year, and is tied for 13th in the nation in total assists.
Jenna Villacres has played the most minutes in-goal for the Racers this season, tallying a 1.62 goals against average and .730 save percentage in 11 matches played.
Matt Lodge is Murray State's head coach, and is in his fifth season in the role.

Series History

This will be the second matchup all-time between the Salukis and Racers. Their first meeting came in September of 2021, in Murray, Ky.
