Salukis Ready to Run at Gans Creek Cross Country Course

Where: Gans Creek Cross Country Course, Columbia, MO
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Both Saluki Cross Country teams head to the 2022 NCAA DI Midwest Regional, hosted by The University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. The race is scheduled for Friday, November 11 with the Women's 6k race at 11:00 a.m. CT and the Men's 8k race at 12:00 p.m. CT. The races will be streamed live on YouTube.
"The team is in a great spot right now," said Southern Illinois head cross country coach, Brian Biekert. "We've been talking about being consistent all week and the team is ready."
The Salukis most recent race was the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana. Both the Men's and Women's teams placed fifth overall. The women were led by Rachel Anderson who placed sixth (21:32.0), while the men were led by Ethan Senti (24:40.9) and Dawson Smith (24:44.5). Anderson was named to the Women's All-Conference First Team and Senti and Smith were named to the Men's All-Conference First Team. Senti was also honored with the Men's Elite 17 award.
"I'm excited to see our front-runners," added Biekert. "More importantly, I'm looking forward to seeing how the group performs as a whole. The race is another opportunity to improve on our process."
The Midwest Regional Race will take place at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, which opened in 2019. The facility totals to be 320-acres and includes a 10-meter-wide grass running surface. Since opening, the course has hosted the SEC Championships once (2021). There will be thirty-four teams running in the Women's 6k and 30 teams running in the Men's 8k.
Both Saluki Cross Country teams will have six runners competing in the 36-team field.
