Cross Country Finish Season at NCAA Midwest Regional

The Southern Illinois cross country teams wrapped up their season at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday in Columbia, Missouri. The women's team posted a 21st place finish with 594 points, while the men placed 20th with a score of 520 points. Oklahoma State (58 points) won the women's title and Tulsa (49 points) took home the men's title.
Rachel Anderson led the Saluki women with a 52nd place run of 21:10.5 in the Women's 6K. Brianna Nieset clocked 21:50.5 to finish 106th, while Leah Metzger and Tabitha Bevan placed 121st and 152nd with runs of 21:58.4 and 22:27.4, respectively. Stephanie Anthonies finished in 168th with a time of 22:51.4 and Ansley Bailey rounded out the scoring for the Salukis with a time of 23:56.0 in 213th.
"Rachel (Anderson) is consistently racing well, and Bri (Nieset) had a great showing," said Southern Illinois head cross country coach Brian Biekert.
The Saluki men had two Top-50 finishers. Dawson Smith took 35th place with a time of 30:17.9 in the Men's 10K, and Ethan Senti finished 48th with a time of 30:32.4. Weston Jokerst finished 134th with a time of 31:47.4. Will Kaempfe and Uriah Guthrie placed 159th and 160th with times of 32:06.0 and 32:06.7. Travis Hart finished 166th, running 32:19.7 to round out the men's score.Â
"Dawson (Smith) has shown good improvement throughout the season," added Biekert. "We all want to get better and are eager to get back to work."Â
