CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Salukis Cross Country team will send four athletes to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships later this week in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The meet, hosted by Oklahoma State, is one of the deepest and most competitive regionals in the country, drawing top talent from across the Midwest.
SIU's group includes junior Hannah Meiser on the women's side, along with Will Foltz, Brady Faulkner and Calen George for the men. The women's 6K is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, followed by the men's 10K at 11:30 a.m. All four athletes have been big contributors for SIU throughout the fall season, showing consistent progress as the year has advanced.
On the women's side, Meiser once again leads the Salukis into the postseason. She recorded one of her strongest performances of the season at the Angel Mounds Invitational, running 22:16.9 for 31st overall, and added another solid effort at the MVC Championships with a 23:15.9. Meiser has continued to build momentum following a long recovery from a serious arm injury last year, an effort that Head Coach Angelina Ramos has repeatedly praised for its steady improvement.
On the men's side, SIU will rely on its young core, which has shown big growth from meet to meet. Sophomore Will Foltz has been one of SIU's most reliable scorers, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the SIU Oscar Moore Invitational in 25:19.7. He also turned in strong times at major meets, including 25:21.7 at Angel Mounds and 25:48.8 at the Louisville Classic. At the MVC Championships, Foltz placed 55th in 25:59.9.
Freshman Brady Faulkner has also made an impact in his first fall season. Faulkner recorded his season-best time at the Oscar Moore Invitational, finishing 4th in 25:25.9, and followed with solid showings at Angel Mounds (26:19.3) and the MVC Championships, where he finished 50th overall. Freshman Calen George completes the regional roster after a strong debut season of his own. George ran his fastest 8K of the year at SIU's home meet, clocking 25:26.0 for 5th place. He added top-70 finishes at major invitationals and ran 26:20.1 at the MVC Championships.
Both SIU squads have shown steady improvement as the season has progressed, with the men and women focusing heavily on pack strategy and consistent pacing throughout the fall. The group traveling to Stillwater is looking to carry that momentum into Friday's races.
