CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois Salukis men's and women's cross country teams will compete on Friday in the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championships at the historic Angel Mounds Historic Site in Evansville, Indiana. The women's race begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's at 11:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
On the women's side, the team will feature senior Audrey Boles, juniors Brodie Denny and Hannah Meiser, sophomores Riley Linville and Allyson Niedfeldt, and freshmen Ellary Blakey and Savanna Franzen. On the men's side, the lineup includes seniors Weston Jokerst, sophomores Will Foltz and Ben Chance, and freshmen Parker Davidson, Brady Faulkner, Calen George and Drew Twyman.
Both teams are familiar with the Angel Mounds course, having wrapped up their regular season there earlier this month at the Angel Mounds Invitational. SIU showed progress in that outing, highlighted by consistent pack running and multiple season-best performances. For the men, SIU finished 10th overall in the 8K with 254 points. Senior Ben Chance led the team with a 29th-place finish in 24:59.37. Head Coach Angelina Ramos said she's seen steady improvement in the men's group as the season has progressed.
On the women's side, the Salukis placed 15th in the 6K with 382 points. Hannah Meiser once again led SIU, clocking a 22:16.83 for 31st overall, while Riley Linville recorded a lifetime-best 22:51.66. The Salukis have faced their share of adversity this fall, battling illnesses and injuries, but the women's squad has shown resilience. Ramos noted that Meiser's return from a serious arm injury earlier this year has been a key storyline, as she continues to rebuild strength and form heading into championship season.
SIU enters Friday's meet looking to capitalize on its late-season momentum, with both teams focusing on pack strategy and even pacing against a strong Missouri Valley field. Throughout the season, both squads have shown upward momentum. The Salukis enter Friday's meet looking to translate that improvement into a competitive showing at the MVC Championships.
