CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team is set to host the Indiana State Sycamores on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip in Banterra Center. The Salukis (17-7, 12-2) are undefeated at home ahead of their penultimate home game of the season.
Southern is coming off a 65-49 victory over Illinois State on Sunday. The Salukis were led offensively by Abby Brockmeyer, as she notched a Missouri Valley Conference-leading twelfth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 boards. Makenzie Silvey (13 points), Gabby Walker and Quierra Love (10 points each) also scored in double figures for SIU.
Brockmeyer was named MVC Player of the Week on Monday, as she averaged 17 points and 13.5 rebounds over the Salukis' wins over Illinois State and Bradley. This is the second time this season Brockmeyer has earned Player of the Week honors. Brockmeyer's 15-rebound performance against Bradley saw her eclipse the 1,000 rebound mark, becoming just the third player in SIU women's basketball history to reach that plateau.
The Salukis won their previous matchup with the Sycamores on Feb. 9 in Terre Haute, Ind. Quierra Love scored a career-high 24 points in Southern's 79-55 victory. The Salukis have won seven consecutive games against the Sycamores, and have won 11 of the last 12 matchups between the teams.
