
Ben Coupet Jr. named MVC Newcomer of the Week for second time

CARBONDALE, Ill. — For the second time this season, Southern Illinois guard Ben Coupet Jr. has earned Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.
Coupet averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in last week's games versus Illinois State and Drake. He was 10-of-18 shooting from the field, including 5-of-10 from 3-point and 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
The Chicago native has been on a shooting tear during the month of February, connecting on 18-of-34 (.529) shots from long range. He leads the MVC in 3-point shooting percentage (.446) in conference play.
A grad transfer from Little Rock, Coupet is averaging 11.1 points per game and 17.8 points in his last four games.
He was also the league's Newcomer of the Week in December after recording a career-high 27 points against Tulsa.
