SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team will face the Missouri State Lady Bears for the second time in three days on Sunday in a 5 p.m. matchup at the JQH Arena. While the game will not be telecast, fans unable to attend can follow the action by tuning in to Magic 95.1 in southern Illinois, or by listening online.
The Salukis (12-6, 7-1) currently sit atop the Missouri Valley Conference standings as the only remaining one-loss team. Southern defeated the Lady Bears 65-49 on Friday night, securing the program's first victory over Missouri State since the 2019-20 season. In the victory, the Salukis shot 9-of-14 (64.2%) from beyond the arc; the Lady Bears entered the contest allowing a 22.4% three-point percentage, good for second in the nation.
Southern's 7-1 start to conference play is the program's best since the 2006-07 team that won the MVC regular season title. The 2006-07 season also saw the Salukis' last victory against Missouri State in Springfield, a 63-38 win on Dec. 30, 2006.
Following Sunday's game, the Salukis will be back on the road Feb. 9 at Indiana State, before returning to Banterra Center for a weekend series against Drake and Northern Iowa.
