Best opening round since SIU last won the championship in 2019.
PADUCAH, Ky. — Southern Illinois leads the nine-team field at the 2022 MVC Championship with a three stroke lead after carding an opening round of 295 (+7), the Salukis best start since they last won the championship in 2019.

Matthis Besard was locked in, firing three birdies on the day to finish with a score of 1-under par (71), tied for first place. Birgir Magnusson played a consistent round and shot 74 (+2), tied for third place. Tom Cleaton & Braden Hoisington are both tied for 10th place with opening round totals of 75 (+3). Markus Wilhelmsen finished the day tied for 23rd with a mark of 78 (+6).
Due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the forecast, Monday's second round of action is tentatively set to tee off an hour later at 10:30 a.m. CT, shotgun start. For more information, visit 2022 Championship Central or follow along with live scoring on Golftsat.com.
