The Southern Illinois University baseball team can clinch at least a share of its first Missouri Valley Conference regular season title since 1990 with a series win over Illinois State this weekend. The Salukis, who need two wins to post back-to-back 40-win seasons for the first time in program history, will take on the Redbirds beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. Friday's tilt begins at 3 p.m. while Saturday's series finale will get underway at 1 p.m. Southern holds a one-game lead over the Evansville Purple Aces with three games remaining. The Aces host last-place Valparaiso this weekend. The surging Salukis, meanwhile, have won seven-straight and are set to face an Illinois State squad that has lost eight of its last 10.
