Saluki Softball, Women’s Cross Country post perfect APR scores

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Two of SIU's intercollegiate athletic programs posted perfect Academic Performance Rate scores, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
SIU's softball and women's cross country teams posted perfect APR scores for the 2020-21 academic year. Southern's 15 athletic programs have tallied a total of 22 perfect scores since the 2004-05 academic year. It marked the second-straight year that both programs posted perfect APR scores and Saluki softball is now tied with Southern's women's golf team for the most perfect APR scores, five, of any Saluki program.
The APR is a real-time measure of eligibility and retention of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. Each student-athlete receiving athletically-related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and another point for being academically eligible. A team's total points are then divided by points possible and multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team's Academic Progress Rate. Teams must earn a 930 four-year average APR or a 940 average over the most recent two year period to participate in NCAA Championships.
