CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team is set to conclude a two-game road trip on Thursday, Aug. 25, at Missouri.Â

The Salukis are 0-1-0 on the season after falling to Lindenwood, 2-0, on Thursday, Aug. 18. SIU out-shot Lindenwood 10-5 in the match, and 7-3 in the second half.

The Salukis were led by Sam Dodd in the loss, who tallied two shots-on-goal in 52 minutes played.Â

Sophomore goalkeeper Chantelle Symes made her debut as a Saluki on Aug. 18, making two saves in 90 minutes played. Symes is from Sydney, Australia, and went to Endeavour Sports H.S. prior to coming to Carbondale.Â

Symes, Sam DeJulio, and Paris Walsh all played 90 minutes against Lindenwood, while Liz Brechtel played 89.

DeJulio played and started in all 16 games, playing a team-high 1,402 minutes in 2022.Â

Southern Illinois' second scheduled match at Bellarmine on Sunday, Aug. 21, was postponed after 33 minutes played due to weather delays. There will be an attempt to make-up the match, with the date yet to be determined.

This is the fourth season in the history of the women's soccer program, which started in the fall of 2019.Â

The Salukis return five of their goalscorers from 2021, with Dodd, Christy Murauskis, Hailey Blanchard, Quinn Parks, and Emma Spotak all returning.Â

Three of Southern Illinois' assist leaders from last season are back for the 2022 campaign, with those three being Dodd, Murauskis, and McKensey Bunch.

Both goalkeepers, Maddy Alaluf and Ary Lougher, from last year's team return. Alaluf played in 14 games and started in 13, tallying 63 saves and a save percentage of 67 percent.Â

Alaluf recorded a shutout on Aug. 18, 2021, vs. North Alabama. Her season-high in saves, nine, came on Sept. 29, 2021, against Valparaiso.

Lougher played in four matches while starting in three. She had 21 saves and a percentage of 62 percent. She had a season-best eight saves on Sept. 5, 2021, against Lipscomb.Â

The Salukis have 24 letterwinners back for the 2022 season and six newcomers.Â

Blanchard played at Missouri during her freshman year in 2018. The Frankfort, Ill. native appeared in 14 of the team's 19 games.Â
Head Coach Craig Roberts

Craig Roberts is in his first season as Southern Illinois' head coach. Roberts previously was the head coach at Grambling State for the past two seasons, where he led the Tigers to a combined record of 17-9-5 and back-to-back trips to the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match.

Prior to Grambling State, Roberts coached nine seasons at Ball State, totaling 99 wins to become the winningest coach in program history. Under his guidance, the Cardinals won four-consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division titles from 2015-2018 and claimed back-to-back MAC regular-season championships in 2015 and 2016.Â

Roberts' first head coaching job was with UT Martin, which went from 2006-2009. In 2009, he and the Skyhawks won their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.

The Tigers are 1-1-0 through their opening two matches.

Missouri defeated SEMO, 1-0, in the first match of the season on Thursday, Aug. 18, in Columbia. Kylie Dobbs scored the game-winning goal in the 58' off of a Rachel Kutella assist.Â

Goalkeeper Bella Hollenbach earned the clean sheet after making one save in 90 minutes played.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, Missouri fell to Ohio State, 2-1, at home to even its record at 1-1. After conceding in the first half, the Tigers scored the equalizing goal at 71' after Grace Pettet found the back of the net. Leah Selm picked up the assist on the goal.

Ohio State scored the winning goal at 81' to earn the 2-1 victory.

Missouri is coming off of a 7-10 season in 2021, and is looking for its first over .500 finish since 2020-21 when the team went 6-5-3.

The Tigers are led by second-year head coach Stefanie Golan. Prior to Missouri, Golan was at Minnesota for nine years as its head coach.Â
