
Swimming & Diving honors 12 Seniors, sweeps Little Rock and Lindenwood

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Swimming & Diving programs were back in action Friday afternoon with a tri-meet in Shea Natatorium against Little Rock and Lindenwood. Before the meet the Salukis honored 12 seniors in the class of 2023.Â
The men's team defeated Lindenwood, 164-136, while the women's team beat Little Rock (219-76) and Lindenwood (161-139).Â
In total the Salukis won 16 of the day's 32 events, with the men capturing nine, and the women with seven.Â
"The team did a great job honoring the seniors with a great effort tonight," said head coach Geoff Hanson. "As always, we know there's a lot of work to be done as we enter championship season, but we're happy with tonight's meet."
Freshman Olivia Herron led the women's team with four victories, winning the 400 Medley Relay, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke, and 200 IM. Sophomore Karen Rodriguez picked up three wins of her own, taking first in the 400 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle, and 500 Freestyle. Lucia Romero and Jasmine Rau contributed to Southern's win in the 400 Medley Relay.
On the men's side, South African freshman Ruard Van Renen led the Salukis with four wins, finishing first in the 400 Medley Relay, 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, and 200 Freestyle Relay. Sophomore Jack Khrypunov and Junior Donat Csuvarszki also won two events each.Â
The Salukis will travel to Evansville, Indiana this Saturday to take on Southern Indiana at 12 p.m.
