
Swimming & Diving Knocks Off Southern Indiana on the Road

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki Swimming & Diving programs traveled to Evansville this Saturday to take on Southern Indiana.Â
The Saluki men defeated the Screaming Eagles with a score of 194-46 and the women won 154-75. In total the Salukis were victorious in 24 of the 26 events.Â
"It was good to see the team race on the road and show our depth as a team," said Head Coach Geoff Hanson. "USI is just in the first year of their program's existence and I highly compliment their staff on starting a team from scratch. I have no doubt they will build a quality program."
The Salukis had 6 women pick up multiple wins including Junior, Maria Torres who won the 200 Medley Relay and the 100 Backstroke. Fernanda Sanchez picked up wins in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Ali Robertson and Jasmine Rau both contributed to victories in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay. Sophomore Farida Moussa won both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter Dive. The final member of the women's team with multiple wins was Olivia Herron. She was victorious in the 100 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle Relay.Â
On the men's side, Ruard Van Renen and Mykyta Terentiev led the team with 3 wins a piece. Van Renen won the 200 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle Relay. Terentiev was also apart of the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay, but he also won the 50 Freestyle. Tiago Falerios, Nicolas Lanuza, and Sam Flessner all picked up 2 victories of their own.Â
The Salukis will be back in action at the end of the week with meets at Eastern Illinois and Missouri. "We're looking forward to our last weekend of racing coming up at Eastern Illinois and Mizzou this week," said Coach Hanson.
