Salukis Set to Host Coach B Classic

Carbondale, IL - The Southern Illinois Salukis (6-2) will make their 2023 home debut this Friday, February 24 at 2:15 against the Northern Kentucky Norse in game one of the Coach B Classic. The Salukis will play against NKU both Friday and Saturday afternoon, followed by a scheduled 5:15 start against DePaul on Saturday, before one last game on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Joining Northern Kentucky at Charlotte West Stadium for the three-day tournament will be DePaul and SIUE.

SIU is coming off a 2-2 finish at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge after beating Kansas and taking down Sacramento State in five innings of the final game on Saturday.
The Salukis 5-2 win over Kansas marked the program's third win over a Power 5 opponent in the past three seasons.
Juniors Madi Eberle and Elizabeth Warwick were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.
In her first start of the season, Eberle threw a complete game - giving up just one earned run against the Jayhawks.
Warwick cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double against KU, which proved to be the difference in the final score.
Outfielder Aubree DePron leads the Valley in hits (14), batting average (.636), and on-base percentage (.667). Her .636 average and .667 OBP both rank in the top-10 in the NCAA.
Both DePron and Jackie Lis are in the midst of eight-game hitting streaks, while Elizabeth Warwick has gotten on-base in all eight games, with at least one hit in seven.
Preseason All-MVC nominee Rylie Hamilton is top-10 in the Valley in RBIs (10), total bases (17), home runs (2), and slugging percentage (.680) through eight games.
As a team, the Salukis are hitting .291 on the season with an on-base percentage of .381 which mark the third-highest average and second-highest OBP in the Valley.
Madi Eberle is one of just two pitchers in the Valley to have thrown for more than 20 innings while having an ERA of under 1.00. She's totaled 23 innings pitched on the season, giving up just three earned runs for a 0.91 ERA.

Northern Kentucky | Friday, Feb. 24 - 2:15 pm | Saturday, Feb. 25 - 3:00 pm

The Norse opened their season going 2-3 at the Texas A&M Invitational with wins over Michigan State and Texas A&M Commerce.
NKU was selected to finish sixth in the Horizon League after a 27-29 season in 2022.
SIU and NKU last met in 2022 at the Coach B Classic with the Salukis winning the matchup 4-0.
The Salukis lead the all-time series over NKU 2-0.
Ella LeMonier and Trinity Robertson have led the Norse offense through the first five games as both are hitting for an average over .500 early on.

DePaul | Saturday, Feb. 25 - 5:15 pm

The Blue Demons opened their season going 4-0 while hosting the DePaul Dome Tournament but dropped their next five games at the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, AZ moving to 4-5 to start the season.
With 58 points, the Blue Demons were selected as the 2023 preseason favorite in the Big East
DePaul has already faced off with two MVC opponents in Valparaiso and Evansville. The Blue Demons beat Valpo 7-1 and Evansville 2-1.
The Salukis last met DePaul at the 2021 Coach B Classic, where the Salukis would win 6-4.
DePaul has the all-time series lead over SIU at 4-5, however SIU has won the last two matchups.

SIUE | Sunday, Feb. 26 - 3:00 pm

After its first two tournaments, SIUE is 1-7 on the season. The Cougars opened the season at the Trojan Classic at Troy University and spent last weekend at the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagle Invite.
SIUE was selected sixth in the Preseason OVC poll out of nine schools.
The Salukis hold the all-time series lead at 38-9 with the two teams splitting last year's series in Carbondale.
Lexi King leads the Cougars with seven hits, including three doubles through SIUE's first eight games.
