Dawgs Beat SEMO in Midweek Action

Steven Loden and Bennett Eltoft shined offensively, combining for four hits and four RBIs.
Loden got the Salukis (20-13) on the board first with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. His 34 RBIs lead the team and are second in The Valley.
He doubled again in the fourth and was brought home by a single from Bennett Eltoft. The Dawgs took a 3-0 lead later in the inning after an RBI single from Pier-Olivier Boucher.
After SEMO (18-17) put their first run on the board, SIU countered with two more runs thanks to a sacrifice fly from Steven Loden and another RBI single from Bennett Eltoft.
Back-to-back RBI doubles from Ryan Rodriguez and Cole Christman along with a single from Kaeber Rog put the Dawgs up 8-1 after six innings. All hits came with two outs.
SEMO cut the lead to four after a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single in the top of the seventh. They threatened again in the eighth but only scratched one run across.
Jake Combs was solid on the mound, going 4.1 innings and allowing only one run, four hits, two walks, and striking out four. Matthew Steidl (2-5) earned the win and Scott Harper tallied his first save of the season after 1.2 innings pitched allowing zero runs, zero hits, walking one, and striking out one.
Danny Sperling collected three hits, while Lincoln Andrews knocked in two RBIs for SEMO.

Southern continues their homestand on Friday versus Evansville. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will air on The Valley on ESPN.
