
Salukis Host Evansville for Alumni Weekend

The late Dan Callahan will have his No. 37 jersey retired on April 15, 2023 before the Salukis host Evansville.
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Off to its best start in conference play in program history at 8-1, the Southern Illinois baseball program will host Evansville this weekend at Itchy Jones Stadium as part of Alumni Weekend. The Salukis will also retire the late Dan Callahan's No. 37 officially on Saturday prior to the game. More information on the retirement can be found here.

HOW TO FOLLOW ALONG
Both Friday and Saturday's games will air on ESPN+ with Trea Reamer and Kirk Champion on the call. Sunday's game will be played in front of a national audience on ESPNU. Clay Matvick and Mike Rooney will call the game. • After sweeping Belmont, SIU has won 11-straight MVC weekend series dating back to the 2021 season.

• Southern is 37-of-47 on stolen base attempts -- ranking third in the MVC. Southern has stolen 14 bases in the last nine games, going 14-for-17.

• The Salukis lead the series with Evansville 116-68, including a 66-29 mark in Carbondale against the Aces. Southern has won six of the last 10 meetings.
• UE enters the weekend at 19-16 overall and 5-4 in League play. As a team, the Aces are hitting .261 and rank third in the MVC in home runs with 44 in 32 games. Chase Hugs leads UE with a .392 average and a team-best 10 doubles to go along with seven home runs and 23 RBIs. Simon Scherry is also hitting .302 with 38 hits in 32 games. The Aces pitching staff holds a 5.17 combined ERA by Sunday starting pitcher Donovan Schultz at 3.68. Schultz has struck out 37 and walked 19 in 44 innings of action.
