Salukis Drop Finale to No. 14 Indiana State in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Southern Illinois baseball was unable to slow down No. 14 Indiana State Monday afternoon as the Sycamores picked up their 14th-straight victory. ISU completed the series sweep of the Salukis, winning 7-2 at Bob Warn Field.
The Salukis' offensive woes continued, collecting just four hits in the game while Indiana State had 14.
Mathieu Vallee led off the third inning with a double down the line in left field before Nathan Bandy scored him on a single to right field to give SIU a 1-0 lead.
Indiana State answered back with a run to tie it in the bottom of the inning before the Sycamores ran Jake Combs out of the game in the fourth inning. The Sycamores would get five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead.
Steven Loden cut into the Sycamore lead with his team-leading 12th home run of the season with a solo homer in the seventh inning but that would be all the scoring the SIU would get in the game.
Combs made the start on the mound after scheduled starter Ben Chapman was a late scratch. The right-hander went 3.1 innings and allowed six hits but no earned runs.
The Sycamores hit Matthew Steidl and Easton Dermody for three runs each out of the bullpen.
Lane Miller pitched 6.1 innings for Indiana State and improved to 4-0 after allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five. Jared Spencer struck out five in relief in the final 2.2 innings for ISU.
Bandy had two of Southern's four hits while Austin Pottinger and Keegan Watson had three hits each for the Sycamores.
UP NEXT
The Salukis will travel to Southeast Missouri for a midweek contest Tuesday at 6 p.m.
